We are committed to providing our team of engineers with outstanding opportunities for success while maintaining strong collaborative relationships throughout their careers.

  • Values Are What We Value

Lots of companies have nice sounding value statements. Our company values are based on the behaviors and skills that we particularly value in our people. These include:

Good Character: We value integrity, accountability, and kindness and respect in all our employees.

Continuous Learning and Growth: We encourage our team to consistently seek out new knowledge and skills.

Teamwork: We believe that working together as a team, we can achieve more than we ever could as individuals.

Simplicity & Efficiency: We strive to simplify complex problems and processes, so we can achieve our goals with minimal effort and maximum impact.

Innovation: We foster a culture of creativity, experimentation, and risk-taking, where new ideas and approaches are welcomed and encouraged.

  • Performance Is Key

We’re a team, not a family. As such, it’s important that we develop and cut smartly so we have stars in every position.

We value effectiveness over effort. It’s not about how many nights or weekends you spend at your computer, but how quickly and how well our people get work done – especially under a deadline.

So, how do we evaluate performance? Metrics.

    Current metric plans include:

    • Revenue splits

    • Client satisfaction

    • 360 reviews

    • Learning hours tracked

These metrics Metrics are set up to provide objective performance evaluations and measure what matters most to the success of 5BY5 Engineers

  • Freedom & Responsibility

We believe that responsible people thrive on freedom, and people with freedom choose to be responsible. Instead of a culture of process adherence, we foster a culture of freedom and responsibility, innovation and self-discipline.

It’s our goal to closely review every policy and process we implement to ensure they help our team get more done rather than attempting to maintain control and adherence.

Some examples of how we do things differently include:

Workdays, Vacation, and Time Tracking: We focus on what people get done, not how many hours or days worked. We don’t have an 8-5 workday policy, a vacation policy, or a time tracking requirement.

Expensing Policy: Our policy for expensing, entertainment, gifts and travel is simple - “Act in 5BY5’s best interest.” That’s it.

  • We Pay Top of Market

Top of Market pay is at the core of our high performance culture.

One outstanding employee gets more done and costs less than two adequate employees. Therefore, we endeavor to have only outstanding employees.

    We pay our employees:

    • More than anyone else likely would.

    • As much as a replacement would cost.

    • As much as we would pay to keep them if they had a higher offer elsewhere.

We review each of our team member’s compensation annually based on their individual performance, not the performance of the company. We don’t have set budgets, standard increases, or company limits.

Long story short; we pay YOU what YOU are worth.

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?

We know our team performs at their best when they are secure, supported, and fulfilled.

Now that you know what drives us, let’s talk about how we create a work environment that enables our people to live a full life - both professionally and personally.

OUR CULTURE

We take our work very seriously, but we also have a lot of fun doing it.

Conveniently located in the downtown Kansas City WeWork building - just blocks from P&L and T-Mobile Center - our office is a hub for productivity, collaboration, and excitement.

We’re not your average stuffy old engineering firm. Our team regularly gathers for lunches, happy hours, and holiday celebrations. We believe that if you don’t enjoy the work you do - and the people you work with - it’s not worth doing.

We have a small firm personality, with big firm capability. Each member of our team has access to the latest engineering technology, the opportunity to develop an area of expertise, and the ability to collaborate with our entire team of experts.
